Even if you’ve seen “The Sound of Music” before, it’s worth going again to the lively performances from the Radford High School Theater Troupe. For nearly 60 years, The Sound of Music has delighted audiences. With the students beautiful voices and their amazing energy, this Broadway classic may become your new “favorite thing.”

Show times
Friday and Saturday: 7 p.m.
Sunday: 2 p.m.
Tickets are $7 Adults
and $5 for students

The romantic and beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family will entertain audiences with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s timeless score including “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Edelweiss” and of course, “Sixteen Going on Seventeen.”

Students from both Dalton Intermediate School and Radford High School make up the cast and crew for this animated show. Kate McDonnell, senior, plays Maria and Nate Notebaert, senior, plays Captain von Trapp. The von Trapp children are as follows: Liesl is played by Emily Ward, junior; Friedrich is played by Teagan Crane, eighth grade; Louisa is played by Abby Ridpath, freshman; Kurt is played by Pierce Johnson, freshman; Brigitta is played by Isabella Burgoyne, freshman; Marta is played by Gracie Blackwell, eighth grade; and cute little Gretl is played by Alex Dunn, eighth grade. The caring and understanding Mother Abbess is played by Madailein Adams, junior, and the quick tongued Sister Berthe is played by Eliott Van Noy, senior.

The sweet, concerned Sister Margaretta is played by Abby Ridpath. You will be rolling in the aisles as Max Detwieler makes his appearance on the stage as Adri Newman, junior, captures the perfect comedic timing that makes Max one of the most fun characters in the show.

You will be touched by the sweetness of the young love building between Liesl and Rolf, played by Grant McDonell, sophomore.

The sophistication of Elsa, played by Riley Bloomer, sophomore, will delight audiences as well. The actors and actresses are supported by an amazing crew from stage manager McKenzie Papas, junior, to the sound and lighting effects handled by eighth grader Zoe Tapp and freshman Amber Duncan.

There are many more students working diligently on the set crew and acting as extras in various scenes that help keep the show running smoothly.
