RADFORD – Police have released additional information about a bank robbery that occurred last week in Radford, and the bank is offering a reward for information leading to the conviction of the perpetrator.

Wachovia Bank at 1040 E Main Street was robbed at gunpoint by a man on Thursday morning. According to Radford Department of Police Det. Sgt. Chris Caldwell, a man “walked into the bank, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the tellers” at 10:28 a.m. on Thursday.

The suspect fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.  No one was injured in the incident.

According toRadford Det. Sgt. Andy Wilburn, a reward of up to $5000 is being offered by Wachovia Bank. The reward will be paid for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the robbery of the bank.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6’0″ in height, medium build, mid 20’s in age, wearing all black clothing and sunglasses.  He is described as “having long black hair in a ponytail, possibly a wig, and a fake black moustache.”

According to Wilburn, “investigators now believe the suspect was on foot in the area near Third Avenue and Grove Avenue prior to the robbery.”

“He may have a vehicle in the municipal parking lot behind Taylor Office Supply or The Virginia Employment Commission,” Wilburn said in a statement. “The suspect was seen by witnesses in this area wearing what appeared to be a wig with a pony tail, facial hair and glasses.”

His clothing is described as black pants and a black long sleeve shirt with black shoes that has a white stripe or marking on them.

Wilburn said the suspect “crossed the street in front of Wachovia after the robbery and headed East in the Alley behind Sturgill’s Jewelry and The Pet Center.” He may have changed into blue colored shorts with a white T-shirt or tank top after the robbery.

Anyone that was in this area that may have seen the suspect is urged to call the Radford Police Department Crime Line at (540) 731-3627.
