RADFORD – A person and a pet cat have lost their home after a fire early Monday morning.
According to the Radford Fire and EMS department, on Monday, Feb. 19 “at 12:50 a.m. Radford Fire/EMS was dispatched for a residential structure fire in the 500 block of Second St. Engine 2, Medic 1, Medic 3 and Radford City Police Department arrived on scene shortly after dispatch and observed heavy fire and smoke coming from the second story of the structure.”
“The home’s single occupant had evacuated prior to Fire/EMS arrival,” the department’s statement continued. “Crews quickly moved to the second floor and began fire suppression, quickly bringing the fire under control and transitioning into overhaul. Due to difficult building construction, significant overhaul was needed in order to find all hot spots and ensure extinguishment.”
The resident of the home has been displaced as a result of the fire. All units cleared after approximately 3.5 hours.
“After the fire was suppressed, a cat was found in the residence and was alive and well,” the department announced. “No civilian or firefighter injuries to report. The cause of the fire is undetermined.”
