The Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County Branch of the NAACP General Body Meeting will be held on March 26 with a meet and greet beginning at 3:15 pm.

Virginia Delegate Nick Rush (R) Delegate Joseph Yost (R) and Delegate Greg Habeeb (R) will be attending the meeting. Our CREDO will be a Virginia Legislative Update and delegates will engage in a question and answer session about issues related to our community.

The General Body Meeting will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church located at 500 Stuart Street in Christiansburg.

The MRF Branch has over 250 members who are concerned about issues directly related to our communities. It stands with the Virginia State Conference NAACP’s 2017 legislative priorities. Legislative priorities center around Mass Incarceration and Community Policing; Economic Opportunity; Voting Rights; Mental Health; and Education and the End to the School-to- Prison Pipeline. The 2017 Legislative Priorities are non-partisan and represent the work of advancing civil rights in Virginia.

“Having our delegates accept the invitation to share with our membership is important in the legislative process. Having an effective government begins with actively listening to the constituents,” says Rita Irvin, president of Branch 7092.

CREDO stands for Civil Rights Educational Developmental Opportunities. The CREDO is a time when the Branch has an opportunity to learn about issues and to be introduced to organizations and people who are working on behalf of helping those in need.

The Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County Branch was chartered in 1959 to extend the reach of the national organization, “to inform the public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination and to seek its elimination; to educate persons as to their constitutional rights and to take all lawful action to secure the exercise thereof.”

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is a nonpartisan organization with members advocating in their communities throughout the United States and the world. The local General Body meets on the fourth Sunday of each month at 3:30 pm.
