Literacy NRV is thrilled to announce the return of our spring fundraiser: The 17th Annual Scrabble Tournament for Literacy will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at the German Club Manor in Blacksburg.

Registration is now open! All teams or individuals registered by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 14 will be entered into a drawing to win exclusive Scrabble Tournament t-shirts with your team named printed on the back! (Individuals will win t-shirts for the entire team they are placed with)

This event not only helps raise funds for our adult literacy programs but also raises awareness for our mission. We are expecting 100 participants to join us for a fun evening of friends, food, drinks, and exciting Scrabble play!

We could use your help to make this our best year ever!

Register yourself or your team for the tournament https://www.literacynrv.org/scrabble.

All proceeds from this fun evening support free tutoring for adults to provide them with the skills they need for personal independence and family self-sufficiency. Our programs include one-on-one tutoring, English for Life and Family READS programs, our GED and U.S. Citizenship preparation classes, and Basic Computer Skills drop-in hours.

The Scrabble Tournament features exciting play and great fun, as well as delicious heavy hors d’oeuvres; a cash bar will be available.

Cost is $120 per team. Individuals may register for $45 and will be placed with a team.

Play is team-based, with three people per team and all levels of Scrabble players are encouraged to join in (you can choose to be paired with “competitive” or “just for fun” teams).

There are two rounds of 45-minute games; play will be completed at 8 p.m. with an awards and prize presentation to follow. Prizes are awarded for: Tournament Champions, Round One Winners, Round Two Winners, Most Creative Team Name and Highest Scoring Word.

For more information, please contact the Literacy NRV Learning Center at 540-382-7262 or email info@lvnrv.org.
