A standout athlete from Radford High School has announced plans to continue his football career at Ferrum College.
Jayden Henricks will play receiver for the Panthers.
This past season, the 6-2, 178 Hendricks had 27 catches for 368 yards with three touchdowns. He says he chose to play at Ferrum because from day one they believed in him.
“When I went for the visit, their principles are based on scripture and that is something important to me,” he said.
Ferrum College is a private college near Rocky Mount, Virginia, with a current enrollment of 760 students. In 2025, Ferrum moved to NCAA Division II as a member of Conference Carolinas.
The college has a direct connection to Radford High School as Radford native Cleive Adams is the Director of Athletics appointed in 2023, after serving four seasons as head football coach from 2020-23. Adams played football at Ferrum under legendary Coach Hank Norton in 1988 and 1989. Both seasons culminated with the Panthers making appearances in the NCAA Div. III national semifinals.
Then another Radford High and Ferrum alum Kevin Sherman returned as head football coach in 2024. He came to Ferrum from the University at Buffalo, where he spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons as wide receivers coach. He also played football four seasons under Norton from 1987-90.
Sherman has over 30 years of coaching experience, coaching in four BCS bowl games and 11 bowl games total. In the fall, Ferrum finished 4-7 overall.
Hendricks said his goals are to get a degree in business, to excel in football and break a couple of records.
“I want Ferrum to remember the Hendricks name for years to come,” he said.
