The Community Health Center of the New River Valley (CHCNRV) was recently awarded three grants for enhancing patient care.
The Radford University Psychology Department and the RU Center for Assessment and Psychological Services gave $7,858 thanks to a King Grant to fund support for CHCNRV behavioral health clinicians to receive training on four diagnostic assessment measures.
Behavioral health conditions can be complicated to diagnose and treat because the symptoms can be varied and complex. The assessment tools create a concrete guide for clinicians to follow so that patients receive an accurate diagnosis within 1-2 appointments. The quicker a condition is identified, the sooner the clinician can create a treatment plan that includes evidence-based practices for the specific condition.
“We’re excited to receive training and resources provided by this grant to increase our diagnostic accuracy and ultimately provide the most appropriate treatment to our patients,” states Ashley Slagel-Perry, L.C.S.W., Behavioral Health Program Manager.
Additionally, two other grants will augment dental services at the newly-opened state-of-the-art dental clinic in the CHCNRV Dublin office. Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation provided $10,000 for the purchase of a NOMAD handheld intraoral x-ray unit.
“Having this portable device will speed the process of oral x-rays which will reduce patient wait time and provide a higher-quality image than traditional x-rays leading to better all-around care,” said Laura Jirsa, Dental Program Manager.
A $31,280 grant from the Marietta McNeil Morgan and Samuel Tate Morgan, Jr. Trust was received for the purchase of computer and electronic equipment for enhancing medical record keeping for the Dublin dental clinic.
