RADFORD – Radford University will welcome home one of its own this December as Lara E. Ramsey ’90, M.S. ’92, president and CEO of The National Bank of Blacksburg, delivers the keynote address at the university’s Winter 2025 Commencement ceremonies.

Ramsey, a distinguished leader in the banking industry and a dedicated member of the Radford University community, will speak to graduates during ceremonies scheduled for Friday, Dec. 12, and Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall.

A native of Lebanon, Virginia, Ramsey earned both a dual bachelor’s degree in psychology and economics and a master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from Radford University. She has built an impressive career spanning nearly three decades at National Bankshares, Inc., where she has held leadership roles in investments, human resources, marketing, training, and strategic initiatives. On Jan. 1, 2025, she became president of the company, and on July 1, 2025, she assumed the role of president and CEO, guiding the organization’s continued growth and commitment to community banking.

Her leadership philosophy emphasizes integrity, innovation and service – values she credits to her Radford education and mentors.

“I am profoundly honored to return to Radford University, where I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, to deliver the December commencement address,” Ramsey said. “Radford has played an instrumental role in shaping my personal and professional journey, and I am deeply proud to celebrate the achievements of this year’s graduates and the spirit of the Highlander community.”

Ramsey also serves on the Radford University Alumni Association Board of Directors, the Radford University Athletic Foundation Board of Directors and the Virginia Bankers Association’s Benefits Board and Insurance Board. She has previously served on boards for the United Way of the New River Valley and the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

She resides in Radford with her husband, Sean, who works at Radford University as director of data management and business intelligence. Their son, Benjamin Ramsey ’23, is also a Radford alumnus with a degree in geospatial science.
