RADFORD – The Radford Noon Rotary Club has chosen Radford Fairlawn Daily Bread (RFDB) as the recipient of its latest district service grant.
At its weekly meeting held Wednesday, March 9, at Long Way Brewing in Radford, the club presented RFDB with a $500 grant to assist RFDB’s effort to feed hungry people in Radford and Fairlawn, Monday through Friday at lunchtime each day.
Dee said the donation is especially helpful right now as the organization’s food budget has skyrocketed from about $6,000 annually to more than $35,000 in 2021. The dramatic increase is primarily due to the need to purchase food that was previously donated through food diversion programs at Virginia Tech and Radford University. The combination of campuses shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic and changes to dining services on the campuses has altered that diversion.
The Radford Noon Rotary Club has made Radford Fairlawn Daily Bread one of its mission organizations with members making financial donations and bringing donations of non-perishable food items to the club’s weekly meetings.
Radford Fairlawn Daily Bread has been providing a hot lunchtime meal Monday through Friday for 30 years and to Meals on Wheels recipients since 2006.
