Radford High School track star Tyashia Gellner will continue her career at Bridgewater College. Gellner officially signed a letter of intent last week in the school’s library in front of family, friends and coaches.
“I chose Bridgewater because of the beautiful campus and to further my career in track and field,” she said.
Gellner will participate in both indoor and outdoor events in college, including the 60-meter hurdles, the long jump, the triple jump and the 100-meter hurdles. She was a state champion in the 300-hurdles as a freshman at Radford and continues to be one of top performers in the Class 1 and 2 ranks.
Last year, she was named the outstanding female performer at the Buffalo Invitational track meet.
Her goal is to get stronger, build endurance, get faster, win and reach for her lifelong dream of making it to the Olympics.
Bridgewater College is a private liberal-arts college in Bridgewater with approximately 1,800 students.
The Bridgewater College women’s track and field team finished fourth in the ODAC indoor team competition in March. Denver Davis is in his tenth season with Bridgewater’s men’s and women’s track and field.
Gellner plans to major in biology or sports medicine.
