Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread (RFDB) provides meals at no cost for people in need in Radford and Fairlawn through two programs: a Monday though Friday dining room meal and Meals on Wheels for home bound folks.
“Anyone may be our guest between 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. Just come in, take a seat at a table, and enjoy a meal with our other guests. You will be served without questions or forms to fill out.”
They provide meals all weekdays, except New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and when the Radford City schools close for hazardous weather.
RFDB was founded in 1992 after “becoming aware of hungry people in Radford, a group of citizens and the Radford Ministerial Association began RFDB.”
“For years we served daily meals in the Radford Church of God in Christ and paid for a bus to transport people to and from the facility,” states the organization’s website. “In its first year, 6,350 meals were served and the demand tripled by 1995. Over the past few years, Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread has worked as a partner agency with Feeding America Southwest Virginia. Through this relationship, we have access to donated food from Walmart and from dining services at Virginia Tech. Pick up and storage of donated food is regulated by Feeding America to maintain quality. Our food service has grown to over 20,000 meals annually.”
