The Radford Clothing Bank is currently seeking donations of summer clothing for infants, children, and adults, as well as monetary contributions for ongoing expenses. The Clothing Bank is a community ministry run entirely by volunteers.
Fourteen participating churches not only provide financial support, but each church also staffs the Clothing Bank for one month each year. In order to keep the ministry of the Radford Clothing Bank going, continued support is needed. Monetary contributions may be sent to The Radford Clothing Bank, P.O. Box 994, Radford, VA 24143. Checks may be used for the general fund or may be designated for one of the projects listed below.
Anyone may shop at the RCB and money collected goes to help with expenses. To qualify for free clothing, a recipient must show credentials for Medicaid or SNAP (food assistance) or be housed at the Women’s Resource Center’s shelter home. Those in the New River Valley communities who qualify for free clothing can come to the Clothing Bank twice monthly to select gently used clothing for their families.
Besides offering clothing, the RCB also maintains “August Kids” which provides Radford City School students, who qualify for free lunches, vouchers to shop for new clothing at the Fairlawn Walmart. (Notices about August Kids will be mailed to qualifying families in July.)
Another project of the Clothing Bank, “Coats for Kids”, provides new and gently- used coats for needy children throughout the NRV communities. Coats for Kids generally takes place in early October. Cooks Clean Center helps with this endeavor by cleaning donated coats at no cost.
The RCB also participates in the Kroger Community Rewards program, where shoppers can link their Kroger Cards with the Clothing Bank and a percentage of their total bill will be donated quarterly to the Clothing Bank. Other local businesses, such as CATO in Fairlawn, also periodically make donations of new clothing.
The Radford Clothing Bank, located at 2000 West St, Radford, has a donation box located by the door, or donations can be dropped off during hours of operation (Thursday-Saturday 10AM-12 Noon, or Thursday afternoons from 4-6PM). The Clothing Bank also accepts linens, scrubs, shoes for all ages, purses, dishes, maternity wear,and small nick knacks.
