Radford claims two region wrestling titles, Christiansburg’s Hand takes Region 3D championship

Radford High School came home with two Region 2C wrestling trophies after competition this weekend. 

Taven Williams took region crown at 157 pounds, and Charlie Davis rolled at 215 pounds. 

Jackson Gilbert took second at 138 pounds, Lance Duncan at 165 and Cole Martin at 175 were runner ups.  Radford’s Dawson Martin was also second at 190 pounds. Ricky Bailey finished the Bobcat top finishes with a second at 285 pounds. 

In the team scores, Radford tallied 150 points to finish fourth with Glenvar taking the regional championship with Chatham in second place. 

Christiansburg’s Brady Hand defended his Region 3D crown with a victory at 138 pounds. Teammate Jacob Robie would finish in second at 165, and Zachary Cumming was second at 175. Brandon Bevins was third at 190 pounds as the Blue Demons had 122.5 points to finish in sixth place. Staunton River continued its dominance with 286 points and four regional champs for first place with William Byrd second and Lord Botetourt third. 

In 4D, Blacksburg finished seventh as a team with two place winners. Sherando took the region title with 220.5 points with Orange County second at 198. Blacksburg finished 134 to 114 behind Salem. 

Tharin Svetanant took the 126-pound class, while Braden Henderson finished first in the 132-pound class.

Blacksburg’s Tyrique Nicholson was third at 138 pounds.
