RADFORD – Radford City Schools announced Thursday Dr. Melissa McDaniel has been named as the new Assistant Superintendent for Radford City Schools.
“McDaniel comes to RCPS from Floyd County Schools where she currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent,” RCPS announced. “She brings with her a wealth of experience.”
McDaniel has served as a paraprofessional, special education teacher and assistant principal in Carroll County as well as a high school special education teacher/department chair and elementary principal in Floyd County. She also has experience with gifted education programs and federal Title IX compliance.
“Building positive relationships is a priority for me,” McDaniel said, “and I am dedicated to putting students at the center of every decision.”
She said personalized learning, professional development for educators and data-driven strategies are among her strong educational beliefs.
“I was particularly drawn to Radford City Schools because of its commitment to academic excellence, its diversity and the community involvement,” McDaniel said. “As a native of Southwest Virginia, I understand the attributes of a small school division in the New River Valley.”
Radford City Schools Superintendent Dr. Adam Joyce has high praise for McDaniel.
“The experience, compassion and skill set that Dr. McDaniel embodies will help this division move forward by increasing student and staff engagement and achievement,” he said. “We look forward to welcoming her as our newest Bobcat!”
“I am so excited about joining the Radford City Schools family,” said McDaniel. “I cannot wait to meet the students, families, faculty, and staff and begin working together. Radford has a bright future, and I am proud to be a part of it. Go Bobcats!”
McDaniel will officially assume her new role on July 1, 2024. She takes over for Assistant Superintendent Ellen Denny, who will be retiring from RCPS at the end of the school year “with 39 years of dedicated service in education, 26 of those years in Radford devoted to the school division and community,” said Joyce.
