RADFORD – Radford City Public Schools is set to start the school year in August with a hybrid schedule for students, who will complete schoolwork in a combination of in-school and at-home instruction.
For Radford, the upcoming school year will also include renovation construction at McHarg School, putting the student bodies of McHarg and Belle Heth on the same campus.
RCPS Superintendent Robert Graham announced Tuesday the plans for administrative leadership for that campus.
“Tara Grant will serve as the principal of McHarg Elementary, as well as continue as the principal of Belle Heth Elementary, during the renovation of the McHarg Elementary School,” explained Graham. “The students of McHarg will attend school on the Belle Heth campus during the renovation. Ms. Grant will also serve as the Elementary Testing Coordinator.
Deb Reedy will serve as the assistant principal of McHarg Elementary. She is a former Physical Education teacher at McHarg Elementary, John Dalton Intermediate, and Radford High School. She joins Ken Keister who remains the assistant principal of Belle Heth Elementary School.”
Graham said Dr. Michael Brown, who is currently principal of McHarg School, will oversee the McHarg construction project during the renovation process.
Graham also announced on Tuesday two additional new administrative hires for the 2020-2021 school year, including a former Radford University vice president and provost.
“Dr. Kenna Colley will serve as the Director of Student Services,” said Graham. “She comes to RCPS with 30 years in education. Most recently she served as Radford University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Dean of the College of Education and Human Development, and Director of the School of Teacher Education and Leadership in the College of Education and Human Development. Dr. Colley is replacing Mr. David Sable who retired this year.”
Daniel Hill will serve as the Director of Special Education, a new position for the upcoming school year, and as Secondary Testing Coordinator, which used to be part of Sable’s duties. “He is returning to Radford where he served as a special education teacher and department chair for Radford High School and John Dalton Intermediate School for eight years,”said Graham. “This past year he served as Director of Special Education and Preschool Programs for Giles County Public Schools.”
