Junior golfers from the area descended on the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech to compete in the June Oblinger Shott Junior Classic as part of the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour. Eighty-seven young players tested their skills on the challenging design by the legendary golf architect Pete Dye.
17-18 Age Group Par 72 6495 Yards
Jonathan Woods of Radford made five birdies along the way to a score of 3 over par 75. Woods was a member of the 2019 State Championship team of Radford High School and won for the first time on the tour. Tyler Williams of Floyd was fourth with a score of 79.
15-16 Age Group Par 72 5903 Yards
Rain was a factor in this age group as they had to deal with the elements for most of their second nine holes. Jake Albert of Blacksburg managed the weather best and shot 74 to win the age group for the second consecutive week. Albert made 5 birdies on the day, good enough to hold off the challenge from Sean Ruan of Blacksburg, who posted a score of 76. Carson Ballard of Christiansburg was third with a score of 80.
13-14 Age Group Par 36 2924 Yards
Rain played a role in this age group as well, reducing the tournament to nine holes. Major Ewing of Blacksburg played steady through the rain and won the age group with a score of a one–over- par 37.
Gant McCall of Richlands won the 10-12 age group. Isaiah Cantrell of Floyd was second, and Hudson Hurt of Radford finished third.
Liam Smith of Elliston won the 9-and-under age group. J.J. Robertson of Blacksburg finished third.
