RADFORD – The Radford Animal Control facility is now reopened following renovations due to significant damage from Hurricane Helene flooding last September.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday, May 14, 2025 to celebrate the grand reopening of the shelter.
“Flooding from Hurricane Helene caused extensive damage to the facility back in September of 2024 and for the past eight months city staff, contractors, and volunteers have been working to create a renovated space for Animal Care and Control,” the city announced. “Radford Animal Control is grateful to all those who have helped, from fostering animals during Helene to volunteering hours during recovery. None of this would be possible without community members’ support and assistance from jurisdictions throughout the Commonwealth. “
“The Animal Control team now has a bright and welcoming facility enabling them to provide the best care possible for all animals in need.”
