Blacksburg’s Riley Price has joined the 1,000-point club.
This past week, she put in a short basket from the paint to eclipse the mark in her high school basketball career.
The 6-3 center called reaching the mark as an indescribable, surreal and rewarding feeling. She missed her entire freshman season to an injury and wondered if she would ever be able to reach the scoring mark.
“My countless hours in the gym, perseverance, determination and giving basketball my all was what allowed me to reach my goal,” she said.
Recently, Price has announced her plans to continue her basketball career at Western Carolina University.
Last year, Price was first team All-District, first team All-Region, first team All-Timesland, and team captain for the last two years.
In college, Price wants to work hard, be a good teammate and contribute in any way she can to make the team successful.
“But mostly I want to leave some kind of positive impact,” she said.
Price plans to major in sports psychology with a double minor in communications and public relations. Her goal is to start a program for therapy dogs for athletes.
“Mental health is a very important thing to me, and I think we should keep talking about it,” she said.
Price hopes to play the power forward position in college.
