James C. Phillips, 97, of Radford, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024.
He was born July 3, 1927, to the late Charlie Ross Phillips and Ocie Hollandsworth Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eula Mae Turpin Phillips; his brother, Charlie, Kirby and Ralph Phillips; two infant brothers; his stepson, Thomas Lee Whitlock; grandson, Thomas James (T.J.) Warden; and granddaughter, Christina Connor.
Mr. Phillips served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked at the Lynchburg Foundry in Radford, Va., for 31 years and retired in 1990. He was a member of the Church of God in Radford, Va. He had many friends there and especially loved Pastor Danny Newman and his wife Lisa, and Joe Ray.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Geneva Phillips; siblings, Ruby McDaniel of Radford, and Tinesta (Jay) Nester of Dugspur; children, Rhonda (Thomas) Warden and Sherry (Fred) Eckert; stepchildren, Debbie (Randy) Hamm, and Charlotte Elder; grandsons, Ben Eckert, David Simpkins, Thomas Whitlock, and Randal Hamm; granddaughters, Michelle Lawrence, Carrie (Andrew) Eaves, Sally (Jeff) Mayberry, Terri (Justin) Hinkley, and Natasha Whitlock; and many great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all of the friends and family as well as the dedicated health care professionals with Radford Health and Rehab and ACG Hospice, who supported him and his family through his final journey.
The family received friends Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services followed with Pastor Danny Newman officiating. Interment followed in the Mitchell Chapel Cemetery in Dugspur.
