Pedestrian struck by vehicle succumbs to injuriesIncident has council members calling for look into crosswalks, lighting
RADFORD – A 21-year-old woman struck by a car Sept. 7 night has died, according to the City of Radford.
“Ms. Jael Osterbauer, the pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on Sept. 7 has succumbed to her injuries and passed away,”stated Radford Public Information Coordinator Jenni Wilder on Friday. “Ms. Osterbauer passed away in Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Sept. 13 at approximately 9 a.m.”
Osterbauer was struck by a vehicle in front of 33 West Main St. On Sept. 7 around 10 p.m. and was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Radford Department of Police officers said the victim was crossing the street between Applebee’s Grill and Bar and the Radford Public Library when she was hit by a vehicle.
During a recent city council meeting, council members said they would like the city to look into ways to improve pedestrian safety in the city, particularly on Tyler Avenue.
