Construction is near completion for a new Park-and-Ride lot near I-81 Exit 114 in Christiansburg.
A spokesman for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) says the exact date for opening the new park and ride has not yet been determined.
According to Jason Bond, it will depend on how much paving can be completed between now and the end of the year and temperatures may impact the schedule.
“We would expect it to open by spring or summer once the paving and remaining work can be completed,” he said.
The $6.7 million project has been under construction for over a year at Route 8, West Main Street.
The 1.5-acre facility will be located about 0.2 miles north of the exit 114 interchange for Interstate 81 and be accessed from Route 666 (Mud Pike).
The new park and ride will include approximately 80 parking spaces, a bus shelter, bike racks and lighting.
Sidewalks and a crosswalk across Route 8 to tie into the existing pedestrian facilities also will be constructed.
