Several courses in New River Community College’s “Boot Camp” series of technology workshops will be offered later this month and in June, beginning May 31.
“Boot Camp: Beginning Excel” will be held Wednesday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to noon in room 238 Edwards Hall at NRCC in Dublin (#3637). Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program that can be used for storing, organizing and manipulating numbers and data. Participants will learn to create formulas, modify worksheets, and use features such as tables, SmartArt and page formatting.
The workshop is also offered in Christiansburg on Monday, June 12, from 9 a.m. to noon in room 143 at the NRV Mall site (#3638).
“Boot Camp: Making the Most of Your PC – Intro” will be held on Monday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to noon in room 143 at the NRV Mall site in Christiansburg (#3634). This course is for individuals who want to become more familiar with their computer and the Internet. Participants will gain knowledge about the operating system, managing files, navigating the Internet, downloading files and images. The course will cover essential computing components and terminology, using the Internet, tips and tricks for email and how to send and save files.
“Boot Camp: Beginning PowerPoint” will be held Thursday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to noon in room 143 at the NRV Mall site in Christiansburg (#3640). Microsoft PowerPoint is used to create presentations, slide shows and story boards. Participants will learn to navigate through PowerPoint and create a professional looking presentation. Participants are asked to bring photos on camera, on CD or on a USB drive to use in practice documents.
“Boot Camp: Beginning Word” will be held Monday, June 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. in room 143 at the NRV Mall site in Christiansburg (#3636). Microsoft Word is a program that can be used to create correspondence in the form of letters, newsletters, reports and tables. This course will teach participants to use basic and intermediate features of Word to enhance their correspondence.
The cost of each workshop is $30, except for the “Making the Most of Your PC – Intro,” which is $20.
