It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of June Elizabeth McClure Norton, 79, of Christiansburg. June passed peacefully Oct. 21, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on July 17, 1945, in Gastonia, N.C., June was the beloved daughter of the late Marshall and Madeline McClure. She is preceded in death by her wonderful parents and now rests in their loving embrace.

June is survived by her loving children, Terri June Welch (Doug Huff) of Christiansburg, VA; Della Elaine Norton of Ocean View, DE; and Michael Gray Norton (Gina Norton) of Sanford, ME. She was a cherished grandmother to Tiffany, Steven, Chelsea, Clayton, Genaya, Haley, and Stevie, and a proud great-grandmother to Marshall, Madeline, Juliet, Briar Grace, Jordan, Izabell, Blake, and Beau. June is also survived by her special Aunt, Lois Parker, of Marble, NC, along with many cousins and dear friends.

June grew up in Gastonia, NC, and embraced the adventures of life as a military spouse, traveling the world with her family. She had a love for ceramics, knitting, crocheting, and cheek-pinching—both on the face and the backside! She spent many happy years as a hairdresser in Grafton, VA, before retiring to the beach in Norfolk, VA. In her final years, she lived at Spring Oak Assisted Living in Christiansburg, where she continued to spread joy and mischief with her quick wit, sassy comebacks, and infectious laughter. Even in her waning days, June never lost her sense of humor, delighting in keeping the staff at Spring Oak on their toes with her playful antics.

June will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, humor, and spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A casual Celebration of Life will be held at McCoy Funeral Home on Friday, October 25, at noon.

Please wear bright colors in honor of June.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Teri Welch or Roselawn Memorial Gardens for June’s memorial plaque, no matter the amount.
