Micah’s Backpack
During the summer months, Micah’s Backpack is seeking volunteers to help pack bags, load cars, restock shelves, and break down packaging on Wednesday nights at 6 pm. Set-up begins at 5:30 pm.
When school resumes, packing will take place on Thursday nights at 6 p.m.

Senior Center volunteer
Radford Senior Center, located at 29 West Main Street in Radford, is looking for a volunteer to teach basic knitting to senior citizens age 50 and up. Interested participants, please contact Audrey Caldwell at 731-5517.

Eclipse celebration, Monday
The Radford University physics department is holding an eclipse celebration on Monday at the RU planetarium, 801 East Main Street in Radford, from 10-5 p.m. Free eclipse glasses will be provided. All ages are welcome. For more information visit radford.edu/planetarium.
Summer dance workshop, today
Attend the free summer dance workshop at NRV Academy of Dance today from 10-11 a.m. The class will take place at NRV Academy of Dance, located at 30 West Main Street in Christiansburg. That theme is “Lyrical Improv.” Lyrical dance tends to be more emotional and often interprets the feeling and lyrics of the song. Pulling techniques from ballet and incorporating more unconventional movements from modern dance masters such as Martha Graham, lyrical is often about what feels right in the moment. This class will focus on introducing basic lyrical technique. This class is for ages 10+ and completely free of charge. Please arrive a few minutes early to check in. New River Watershed Roundtable, August 26
On Aug. 26 Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski Counties, and the City of Radford, will host the Fall 2017 ReNew the New Regional River Clean-up Event. All five localities are cleaning-up different sections of the New River watershed, whether it be on the New River or on one of its tributaries. NAACP meeting, Aug. 27
The August General Body meeting of the Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County NAACP will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27, at First Baptist Church, 555 West Rock Road in Radford. Riverlawn RIF Distribution, Sept. 11
The Women’s Club of Radford is holding their annual Reading is Fun drive at Riverlawn Elementary School, located at 8100 Beth Nelson Drive in Fairlawn, on Monday, Sept. 11. Schools in Pulaski County will be opening before Labor Day so the RIF Distribution is soon. Please think about volunteering for a few hours to help with this children’s literacy event. The Women’s Club always enjoys the children’s enthusiasm as they select a book to keep ‘forever.’ A Sign-Up Sheet will be circulated at the August luncheon or you can contact Pam Austin (980-1780) for more information. Everyone who volunteers for a RIF Distribution is always glad they did.
Learn to Square Dance, Sept. 11
Come enjoy an Open House and free Western square dance lesson offered by the New River Squares on Sept.11, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 995 Peppers Ferry Rd. Pulaski, 24301. You can also sign up for a series of classes that officially begin on Sept. 18 and continue for 14 Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at the Church. There is a small fee for the classes. Come for our Square Dance Open House on Sept. 11 and try this great fun exercise for free.
