The 2025 high school wresting season is now underway, and Blacksburg High School has announced new coach Dominic Williams to lead its program.
He grew up in Central Pennsylvania and wrestled from 2008-2018 for different levels of the Jersey Shore School. As well he has coached wrestling for various schools and levels since graduating college in 2022.
He previously also assisted with several high school teams in the Roanoke Valley and is currently also an assistant coach with the Blacksburg varsity football team.
Williams said he applied for the position during a time when the Blacksburg program was struggling to find a coach.
“I truly believe every kid should get the chance to do the sports they want to do, and as a coach of any sport it is my job to help them,” he said.
According to the new coach, he hopes to have success both on and off the mats with the school’s wrestlers this year.
“Part of my job as a coach is to help these young men and women become the best possible versions of themselves. I hope to teach them the proper skill necessary to thrive in the post high school world. In terms of wrestling itself, my plan is to see Blacksburg shine as a top program in this area through competitive tournaments and rigorous practices. Mostly, my goal is for every day and every week that my wrestlers get better and better,” he said.
Williams teaches world history at Christiansburg High School.
