Franklyn Eugene Murphy, 85, of Blacksburg, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018. He was a member of First Baptist Church on Rock Road. Born on Jan. 5, 1933, he was retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant after serving 30 years in the U.S. Marines and retired from Radford Army Ammunitions Plant. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Cora Murphy; brothers, James, Fred and Bob Murphy; and sister, Mary Alyce Coles.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Maxine Murphy; children and their spouses, Gerry Murphy of Jonesboro, Tenn., Michelle Murphy of Chesapeake, Pamela M. and Raymond Savage of Newport News, Yvette Murphy of Charlotte, N.C., and Vonetta M. and Matthias Smith of Louisa; grandchildren, Jocelyn Savage, Tyson Smith, Raymond Savage, III., and Natalee Smith; and his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Percy Johnson of Pulaski; and many other family members and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Interment with full military honors followed in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
