Apple butter making is one of the numerous fundraisers the Mt. Tabor Ruritan undertakes to support their multitude of community service projects.

Downtown Blacksburg Inc. is proud to present our non-profit Member of the Month for March 2019: Mount Tabor Ruritan Club, and Mount Tabor Ruritan Club is pleased to be the Downtown Blacksburg Inc. Member of the Month for March.

Our Club takes great pride in being a part of the Blacksburg Community.

We strive to uphold the Ruritan Motto:  Fellowship, Goodwill and Community Service.  We meet the first Thursday of each month at Slusser’s Chapel Church of God in the fellowship hall on the basement level. Each meeting consists of a wonderful meal prepared by the ladies of the Church, an informative speaker and a business meeting.

The July meeting is a picnic at the pavilion on Church grounds and the December meeting is a Christmas dinner and swearing in of new officers for the coming year. Fellowship is truly enjoyed at each of our meetings.

Goodwill is shown by our club through benevolence, charity, friendship, kindliness and community service.  Community service being our primary goal.

To support our endeavors in community service there are several fundraisers that allow us to give back to the community.

We hold Fish Fries from May through September. Apple butter making and selling each October and our newer project – Sausage Gravy and biscuits breakfast six months of the year (October, November, January through April).  With money earned through these fundraisers we can contribute to both the Mt. Tabor community and the Blacksburg area.

A few of those we support are Blacksburg Fire and Blacksburg Rescue, 4-H, Boy Scouts, To Our House, VICCC.  Food for shut-ins at Christmas, Micah’s Soup for Seniors, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Support Group, Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry and several other worthwhile organizations. Mt. Tabor Ruritans have sponsored the July 4th Parade and movie for many years.  Additionally, we offer six to eight scholarships to graduating seniors in Blacksburg schools.

The Mt. Tabor Ruritan club named Blacksburg March non-profit member of the month is ready to serve.

We feel we give the opportunity to bring the community together through our functions and allow Ruritan’s motto to be shared with all.   We welcome anyone who may be interested in finding out more about our club, to attend one of our monthly meetings and enjoy a good meal, an interesting speaker and fellowship.

Our Officers this year are:  Nola Elliott, President; Nic Tideman, Vice President; David Price, Treasurer; Bonnie Church, Secretary; Directors, Ann Carroll, Wendy Baldwin and Gavin Faulkner.  All members support the Club in various capacities.
