The Montgomery Museum of Art and History opened up its first student art exhibit of the year Thursday by featuring works by students from Blacksburg High School.
Some sixty-plus works were submitted for an art competition. Members of teh Blacksburg Regional Art Association judged the event. Blacksburg High art instructor Geoff Rowland said the exhibit provides “great opportunity for students to show the public the results of many hours of hard work and practice.”
Karen Villaneuva won the competition with her graphite work titled “Hold On.” Jesse Braak claimed the runner-up ribbon with his acrylic and watercolor “Entomophobia.” Earning third-place honors was an acrylic by Jayden Batista titled “She Went Away.” Two pieces received honorable mentions: Untitled,” an earthenware sculpture by Emily Barron, and “The House,” a pen and ink drawing by Ella Provo.
The exhibit will up through the month of March and then will be followed in April by another installment of student art.
