MONTGOMERY COUNTY- Local fitness centers like the Christiansburg Recreation Center and Blacksburg Boxing are ready to help citizens get jump started with their New Year’s resolutions.
According to Forbes Health, in 2023, 48 percent of Americans had fitness related New Years resolutions and goals, however on average, 23 percent of them have abandoned that goal within the first week to first month of the new year. With the multitude of local fitness centers in Montgomery County, like Blacksburg Boxing, residents have resources to help kick start that resolution.
On Jan. 11, 2025, Blacksburg Boxing will be hosting an Open House for residents to meet their staff and check out their facility. This open house will have information about their more than 30 classes they teach each week with classes catered to all ages and skill levels. For beginners, they offer a Boxing 101 course as well as classes for the little ones. They are also offering information about their programs like their $1,000 weight loss challenge and New Years specials on their memberships. There will be pizza from 12 – 3 p.m. and a raffle for prizes.
Blacksburg Boxing is not just a boxing gym, they are a fitness center centered on improving the health and activity of their members.
Other fitness centers in the area have also started the new year off in full swing. The Christiansburg Recreation Center has already begun their 2025 with a class schedule. They have been hosting and will continue to be hosting classes on Early Morning and Evening Yoga, Zumba, Core and Balance, Ballet, Tap, and even Pilates. They also have a cardio room, a weight room, racquetball courts and so much more for those getting ready to jump start their fitness this year. A membership to the Christiansburg Recreation Center is free for all residents, business owners and taxpayers within the town limits. Anyone outside of town limits who would like to become a member may purchase a membership.
Statistically, the main reason for people to be reluctant to start their goals is time and money, but with the multitude of fitness options in Montgomery County like Sweetgrass Yoga, Blacksburg Boxing, The Christiansburg and Blacksburg recreation centers, The Christiansburg Aquatic Center, Waldron Wellness Center in Shawsville, and so much more, there is something to fit all budgets and time constraints.
Outside of fitness centers, Montgomery County has many outdoor recreation spaces like Huckleberry Park and trails to use. There are also running clubs that are free for residents to join and local recreation leagues as well.
