On Monday, the City of Radford announced that the Radford women’s basketball head coach Mike McGuire will serve as the Grand Marshal for the 2025 Radford Christmas / Holiday Parade.
McGuire, in his 13th season leading the Highlanders, became the winningest coach in Radford University basketball history, with his 194th win coming on November 11 vs. Loyola Maryland. He surpassed Radford Athletics Hall of Famer Pat Barrett to become the all-time winningest coach in program history.
On the court, McGuire has led the Highlanders to an NCAA Tournament-birth in 2019 and four WNIT Tournament bids. He boasts a record of 104-47 at the Dedmon Center and is a three-time Big South Coach of the Year.
Off the court, he has led a team full of character and commitment to developing student-athletes into successful women after college. Five of his teams have earned a perfect 1000 APR score with 11 All-Academic selections under his watch.
“We are honored to have Highlander Women’s Head Coach McGuire serve as Grand Marshal,” said Mayor David Horton in the announcement. “His outstanding leadership has helped Radford student-athletes succeed on and off the court, providing them a pathway for great success in life after college.”
“It has been a privilege to serve as the head women’s basketball coach at Radford and be part of a special community in the City of Radford,” said McGuire. “Radford has become home for my family and I and we cherish opportunities to be engaged with the community. It is an honor to be asked to be the Grand Marshal for this year’s City of Radford Christmas Parade. We look forward to being a part of this annual tradition and help build the Christmas spirit with the local community.”
The 2025 Radford Christmas / Holiday Parade will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9, beginning at 7 p.m. The women’s basketball team will also join Coach McGuire in the parade.
