I have known David Horton for many years and have worked with him as we served the Boy Scouts of America and the citizens of Radford as members of the City Beautification Commission.
I also had the privilege of working with him during my tenure as a member of the faculty at Radford University.
Based upon these associations and experiences, I am pleased to offer an unqualified endorsement of David’s candidacy for the office of mayor of the City of Radford, and I offer the following brief comments to support this endorsement.
David is a person who is unselfish in his giving of himself in service to others. This was demonstrated early in his life as he participated in Boy Scouts as a member of Troop 46.
His work and commitment were rewarded as he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award presented in scouting. Soon after he began his professional career, he demonstrated that same sense of service as he became an active and committed member of the Troop Committee for Troop 46 and remained in that position until recently when the troop was disbanded.
The values that David came to inculcate in his life as a Scout continue to motivate and inspire him in everything he does.
The City Beautification Commission is composed of citizens who are interested in and committed to maintaining and enhancing the natural beauty of our city. David has not only served faithfully on the commission, he also has provided significant leadership and inspired energy among all members in the many projects that commission has undertaken.
His passion for the work of the commission led him, over many years, to work with the Radford City Schools to talk to students about Arbor Day and the value of trees and to help them plant trees on the campuses.
At all times, his work with the commission has been characterized by commitment to the work he has been asked to complete. I feel that he will demonstrated that same level of commitment and energy as our mayor.
His career at Radford University has allowed him to use his talents and his leadership to be a role model for the students with whom he worked in Student Affairs.
His tireless energy and unwavering commitment to guiding students through the many potential obstacles they face to achieve their educational goals consistently yielded positive results.
As mayor, he will provide the same mature, organized approach in leading our city through existing and potential challenges.
David Horton has demonstrated a commitment to our city during many years of public service.
He is honest and open in his approach to working with people, and he has demonstrated his exceptional skills as both a visionary and as a leader.
Please join me and my wife in supporting David Horton to be our next mayor.
