Anne Martin, a dedicated nurse, community leader, and the heart of her family, passed away peacefully at the age of 78.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Aug. 12, 1947, Anne grew up in Clairton, graduating from Clairton High School in 1965. She followed her calling into medicine, graduating from the Allegheny Hospital Nursing School in 1968 and achieving National Qualification on her boards.

On Aug. 3, 1968, she married Michael Martin, beginning a 57-year journey of partnership and family. Together they raised two sons, Daniel and Robert. Anne’s legacy lives on through her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply.

Anne’s nursing career was as diverse as it was impactful. She practiced in General Practice, Dermatology, Pediatrics and Clinical Psychiatry. Her leadership shone brightest during her tenure as the Director of Nursing at Dimondale Nursing Home, which was named Nursing Home of the Year in Michigan under her guidance. Even outside of her professional roles, she served her community as a volunteer nurse for the Red Cross.

In every city she called home, Anne made a lasting mark. She served as the Secretary for the Michigan Christmas Tree Association and later as the President of the Blacksburg Newcomers’ Club. A woman of deep faith, she also managed the Lourdes Gift Shop at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where her warmth and kindness were felt by all who entered.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Martin; sons, Daniel (Rebecca) and Robert (Kelley); grandchildren, Ceirra Martin Hoch, Zachary (Shelbie) Martin, Lauren (Mark) Jacobs, Ezekiel Roberts, Andrew Martin and Lindsay (Nick) Grossmann; and great-grandchildren, Jasper Finch, Bradley Hoch, Lillian Hoch, Rosalie Martin, Wyatt Martin, Athena Jacobs and Carter Jacobs.

Anne will be remembered for her sharp mind, her tireless service to others, and the boundless love she gave to her family. The family wishes to thank the surgical, medical, and palliative care team at Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital and the Carilion Hospice care team, especially the music therapist, and the caringbridge.org website that informed all of Anne’s friends and family about her health journey.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Services or the Red Cross.

Celebration of Anne’s life will be held at a later date.
