Monica Mallory posted three individual personal-bests and was part of another strong 4×100 relay performance during Radford University’s women’s track and field team’s regular-season finale at the Virginia Grand Prix on Saturday.
Mallory set career-bests in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump and high jump during the afternoon after helping the Highlanders post the second-best 4×100 time in program history. Tenae Washington, Kierra Henderson, Mallory and La’Tisha Chambers combined to cross the line in 47.56, shaving. 38 seconds off the time the quartet clocked last week, which was third-fastest.
Mallory ran a 14.48 in the 100 hurdles to place 11th out of 22, while teammate Jessica Shelton took ninth with a season-best of 14.42. Mallory then recorded a mark of 5.56 meters (18-3) in the long jump to place 10th and cleared 1.54 meters in the high jump.
Chambers, meanwhile, posted the 10th-fastest 100-meter time in program history, crossing the tape in 12.15 seconds to take seventh place in that event. The freshman also had her second-best performance of the season in the long jump, with a mark of 5.42 meters (17-9.5).
Percie Lyons also posted a personal-best, finishing the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:53.11 and bettering her previous low by over four seconds. Courtney Rice followed close behind in 4:53.89.
Naihla Rose-Delia had her best shot put throw of the season with a distance of 13.50 meters (44-3.5). It was the second-best of her career and good enough for eighth place in the meet. Also in the throwing events, Anastasia Kramer recorded a season-best 37.46 meters (122-11) in the discus.
Kierra Henderson added her top performances of the season with a 12.63 in the 100 meters and 5.36 meters (17-7) in the long jump.
The Highlanders will now prepare for the Big South Championships, to be held May 10-12 and hosted by Charleston Southern.
