Virginia Tech Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Bud Foster’s Lunch Pail Defense Foundation, a nonprofit organization, is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2018 Lunch Pail Scholarships.
This year, the foundation awarded five individual scholarships, worth $4,000 each to very deserving students from the New River and Roanoke Valleys, Eric Burdette from Radford High School, Brody Fields from Pulaski County High School, Madison Horacek from William Bryd High School, Garren Snow from Salem High School and Karen Casteneda from Patrick Henry High School.
Coach Foster presented these students their awards on the field at Lane Stadium immediately preceding the kickoff of the Hokies spring football game on April 14.
On Sunday afterward, the Lunch Pail Defense Foundation honored the students and their families with a dinner at the Hyatt Regency in Blacksburg, during which Coach Foster presented their checks personally and recognized many of the achievements that earned them their scholarships. Coach Foster, later signed autographs, took pictures and had personal conversations with each student and his or her family.
To date, the LPD Foundation has awarded $107,500 in scholarships to 36 students from New River Valley and Roanoke Valley students. These scholarships are sent directly to the college or university of each recipient’s choice in order to defray their educational costs.
