Radford News Journal reader and local photographer Rebecca Harris recently en-countered a piebald deer in the local area after years of trying to take a photo-graph of one in the wild. Piebald deer are very rare. They are white-tailed deer with a rare genetic condition causing white patches of fur mixed with their normal brown coat, resembling a pinto horse. Unlike albinos, they have brown eyes, black hooves and dark noses. Often, the deer exhibit accompanying physical deformities like scoliosis or short legs.
