Uwem Etuk of Blacksburg has been named to the Spring 2020 President’s List for excellence in academics at Georgia Southern University. To be eligible for the President’s List, a student must have at least a 4.0 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.
Georgia Southern University, a public Carnegie Doctoral/R2 institution founded in 1906, offers 141 degree programs serving nearly 26,500 students through nine colleges on three campuses in Statesboro, Savannah and Hinesville, Ga., plus online instruction.

Margaret Cooper Young of Blacksburg was recently inducted into the Order of the Gown at the University of the South. Young is the daughter of Margaret and Michael K. Young.
The Order of the Gown is an academic honor society and a unique student government body among U.S. colleges and universities. Since 1875 the Order of the Gown has remained the body responsible for maintaining the spirit, traditions and ideals of the University of the South. The wearing of the gown is both a sign of academic achievement and a promise to continue the ideals and traditions of the University.
The University of the South is a nationally recognized university comprising a College of Arts and Sciences and a distinguished School of Theology. Located on 13,000 acres in Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau, Sewanee enrolls 1,750 undergraduates and approximately 85 seminarians.

Two students from Radford, Wade Owen and Mindy Owen, have earned awards of excellence from the college of business at Western Governors University. The award is given to students who perform at a superior level in their coursework.
