Dear editor,
The rally held in Christiansburg last Saturday, June 14, 2025, was a wonderful success. 1200 citizens from throughout the New River Valley (NRV) peacefully carried signs, chanted and sang in opposition to a situation in Washington that they cannot support.
Last Saturday, even with weather that made the situation hard, people stayed to support a common goal. What a tribute to all of us for working to achieve what we feel is right in a Democratic country.
Hopefully, June 14 will not be the high point to the peaceful protest, particularly with the Fourth of July around the corner. The 4th represents everything the United States stands for; freedom of speech, freedom to express ideas and freedom to be ourselves.
Every 4th the Town of Blacksburg holds a 4th of July parade in downtown Blacksburg. What a way to express the feelings of the people of the NRV to walk as a group with signs while singing songs in support of democracy.
The Blacksburg Parade will start at 2 p.m. near the old Blacksburg Middle School (Main and Eheart Street). For additional information check “Indivisible” in Facebook.
What an impression for 2,000 citizens to celebrate the 4th of July together as we walk down Main Street Blacksburg.
