Dear editor,
Morgan Griffith, where are your principles?
You are a man of faith. Your religion instructs you to protect the poor and less fortunate members of the family of man.
You are our elected representative in Washington, DC. As a lawyer you pledged to serve and protect the citizens of Southwest Virginia.
As a person of faith, and an elected representative of the citizens of Southwest Va., please, please, please find the backbone to stand up to our would be king and emperor!
You blindly supported the budget reconciliation bill which will harm thousands of your constituents in SW Va. who depend upon Medicaid and SNAP to survive. You are hindering vital medical research into the causes and cures of cancers, heart diseases, Alzheimer’s, new covid strains and the importance of regular vaccinations, etc.
The would-be king’s goon squads are rounding up innocent citizens who have lived, worked, paid taxes. They are an important part of our economy and society. Anyone without an Anglo-Saxon name or who is not a Caucasian lives in fear every day as ICE detains even legitimate American residents without cause.
You lie about restoring coal mining to SW Va. I’ve lived here 50 years and watched as coal mines close because they are not economical compared to other sources of energy. (I have solar panels on my home. They actually generate about $300 of taxable income every year. But you lie about solar and wind being inefficient.)
You lie about providing healthcare in SW Va. In recent years many counties have lost their only hospitals because of the high cost of medicine and insurance. Many counties do not even have prenatal and delivery care for their citizens. You pretend to want to improve health care, but the hospitals disappear, and you voted to cut Medicaid funding, a vital source of income for these hospitals.
Please, go to your place of worship this weekend, pray, and then return to Washington with the intent to follow your religion’s commands (unless you truly worship the would be king).
