Recently I read a Letter to the Editor in the Pittsburg Post-Gazette, that I thought readers in the NRV would like to see.
The letter was titled “The cancer of gun violence will touch us all.” Bob Karlovits wrote, “America has the attention span of a tweet. The Parkland Florida killings and the good work of the students stirred anger and activism. But now we’re done with that. We’ve move on. Wake up America; we are dealing with a cancer that eventually will touch us all if we don’t do something to correct it.”
That same week I saw an article concerning Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who is in charge of the federal school safety commission. The commission was created after the shooting in Florida; she stated the commission will not examine the role of guns in school violence.
When DeVos was asked if she believed an 18-year old high school student should be able to purchase an AR-15 assault weapon, which has been used in many mass shooting, she replied: “I believe that’s very much a matter for debate.”
Voters, midterm elections are five months away; it will be your turn to voice your opinion.
