The regular season ended on Saturday and the Radford softball team clinched the No. 3 seed in the Big South Tournament, which will be held at the Radford Softball Stadium beginning Wednesday and ending Saturday.
The Highlanders begin the tournament on Wednesday against No. 6 Winthrop and will face No. 2 Longwood on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., with the win. If Radford loses, it will face the loser of No. 4 Campbell/No. 5 Gardner-Webb in an elimination game on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Radford was picked to finish fifth in the preseason polls but finished two places higher than originally chosen. The third-place finish is the best since 2014, where the Highlanders finished third that year too.
The team won the series against every team they finished ahead of in the Big South standings, with a third-place finish or higher, for the first time since 2012. That year the Highlanders finished first in the regular season standings and won every Big South series.
Games on May 9 will be carried on the Big South Network, while day two action on May 10 will be available on ESPN+. ESPN3 will air three games on Friday, May 11 as well as Saturday’s Championship day.
The Big South’s champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Regionals. The conference championship schedule is below and is subject to change due to weather.
Fans can purchase daily passes or an all-session pass, which includes all 10 (potentially 11) games of the Big South Tournament. An all-session pass can be purchased for $25 and daily passes can be purchased for $10. Radford University students can attend the tournament for FREE, while students from other institutions can purchase tickets for $5.
