Blacksburg High School is advertising for a new wrestling coach after longtime head man Chris Johnson has stepped down.
He spent the past nine years as head coach after 12 as an assistant at nearby Christiansburg.
Johnson cited family health problems as a reason for his resignation.
“I have always preached a family first mentality to my athletes, and I would be a hypocrite if I did not practice what I’ve preached,” he said.
Johnson feels he is leaving the program in a very good place, returning two state finalists and one state champion along with another national level wrestler, who will be in the lineup this upcoming season.
Blacksburg’s vacancy is not the only one that pops up on the Montgomery County job site.
Eastern Montgomery is looking for a volleyball coach, while Blacksburg has openings for cross country and girls’ basketball. Auburn needs a cross country and track coach along with coaches on both the boys and girls basketball sidelines.
