This week, Jersey Mike’s Subs (1450 S. Main Street in Blacksburg) presented a giant check for $4,456 and eight cents to their chosen organization, the Intellectual Disabilities Agency of the New River Valley (175 W. Main Street, Christiansburg).
Co-owners Gordon Pannill and Mookie Golden chose IDA of the NRV after significant research.
“We’re happy to make a big splash and we wanted to find a way we can make a big difference. So, we shopped around and someone introduced us to IDA,” Pannill said. “We like to find a group that’s local.”
“And needy!” Sheila Roop, IDA’s executive director laughed.
Jersey Mike’s in Blacksburg was among 1,360 Jersey Mike’s restaurants across the nation that donated not just profits, but 100 percent of sales, to more than 170 different charities in the company’s Month of Giving.
Open just over a year, Jersey Mike’s hit the ground running, contributing to IDA last year too.
