The Intellectual Disabilities Agency of the New River Valley (IDA) recently celebrated the recent remodel and renovation of its facilities in downtown Christiansburg with an Open House.
The event featured the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce as well as donors and supporters of the agency.
IDA’s office space was revamped, allowing for more space for programs to take place in-house. Volunteers and board members contributed to the work involved, and everyone agrees the result are a major improvement.
IDA is a nonprofit agency funded solely by the community. Its mission is to promote education, socialization, and mental health for people of all ages who have intellectual disabilities and reside in the New River Valley.
Various additional programs have been added to IDA’s scheduled events, including seasonal dances, bingo, karaoke sing-alongs, board game sessions, movie showings, splash parties at the park, magic table games, a variety of classes (cooking, arts & crafts), social meet-ups and more. Some of them are offered in cooperation with the Christiansburg Recreation Department. Many of the events are free, although a minimal fee is requested for some.
Anyone who would like additional information about IDA please email info@idanrv.org or visit the Facebook page (Intellectual Disabilities Agency), or the website www.idanrv.org. The organization welcomes volunteers and people who are interested in participating in the programs.
