On Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021 (Roanoke County, VA) Landon Lee Davidson Lockhart, a 22-year-old white male inmate at the Western Virginia Regional Jail, which includes Montgomery County as part of its service area, was found unresponsive in his cell.
Jail security and medical staff initiated life-saving measures, including CPR with an automated external defibrillator, and simultaneously activated 911. Roanoke County Fire and EMS personnel responded to the jail. Inmate Lockhart was pronounced deceased at 10:49 a.m.
All indications were that Lockhart’s death was due to suicide by hanging.
The Roanoke County Police Department has initiated an investigation, and an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke is part of the investigation.
Inmate Lockhart was committed to the jail on Aug. 18, 2021, and was awaiting trial out of
Roanoke County for a hit and run accident, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, and simple assault on law enforcement.
