It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas Edward Huber, 82, on June 16, 2025. He died with the knowledge that he was well loved by family and friends.

Born Oct. 2, 1942, Tom is survived by Peggy Sue (Barlow) Huber, wife of 59 years, his partner through struggles and fun times. They enjoyed many travels together after retirement.

They have two sons, Dean and his wife Sara (Lee) Huber who are the parents of Ryan and Ele; Todd and his wife Spencer (Pope) Huber who are the parents of Brooks, Bailey, Jesse (JP); and daughter Rebecca and her husband Daniel Lee who are the parents of Ben and Cate. Tom’s caring sister Sue Thompson, niece Jennifer, and nephew Tim, grieve with us. The Barlow family will miss his optimism and resilient attitude.

Tom’s children and grandchildren knew him as a kind and patient man, with a corny sense of humor that he shared often. He could diffuse arguments with a witty comment. He loved popular music that spanned the decades, once aspiring to be a radio DJ. He was also a great dancer with an innate sense of rhythm. Tom took pride in his grandchildren, traveling to watch their performances in many activities, such as sports, theatre, and music.

Tom was born and raised in West Chester, Pa. He was the son of Francis Marie Gibbons Huber, and Jesse Elwood Huber. He grew up in Westminister Presbyterian Church, where he learned the teachings of Jesus.

Tom moved his young family to Radford in 1972 for work at the American Viscose plant in Fairlawn. After the plant closed, Tom went to work for the City of Radford where he would retire after 23 years of service. He had a special bond with many of his co-workers.

His friend Martin “Jigger” Roberts inspired him to join the Radford Volunteer Fire Department and become an EMT, serving the community for several years. The Roberts family has been a significant part of the Huber’s lives.

Tom truly loved the game of baseball, particularly the Phillies. Highlights of his life include spring training trips with Nelson Sifford, watching the River Turtles with Fran Shelton, and seeing Philadelphia championship games with his family!

During periods of difficult medical challenges, Tom’s children, daughters-in-law, and son-in-law stepped up to show love and support beyond the call of duty. The church family of First Baptist Church have also given help in abundance. We are especially grateful for longtime friends, Jan and Shirley Levy and their continual aid and guidance. Tom was grateful for his good life, surrounded by many people who loved him. Tom and family appreciate all the acts of kindness.

A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

The Huber family is in the care of the Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
