Timothy Scott Hopkins, 56, of Blacksburg, Virginia, passed from this life to his eternal home on Thursday July 5th, 2018.
Tim was born August 17th, 1961 in Winston Salem, NC and grew up in Charlotte, NC where he attended South Mecklenburg High School. He attended Brevard College, UNC and Pfeiffer University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. While at Chapel Hill, Tim met the love of his life, Dee. In November of 1984 he married his loving wife and later settled in Salisbury, NC. He then moved to Blacksburg where he owned and ran his own business, NanoChemonics, as a successful chemist and businessman for ten years. He then went on to serve as the Vice President of the company Professional Communications in Blacksburg, VA.
Tim was active in the New River Valley Young Life Ministry, serving as the area committee chair for several years, in addition to being a member of several adult ministry teams. He was active in the community and enjoyed mentoring future leaders. Tim loved watching his children play soccer, tennis, and track. He coached all three children’s youth teams and dedicated endless hours to their sporting careers. When he wasn’t working or serving others, he was a mountain man at heart who loved to hunt and fish.
Tim is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Deirdra Wiggins Hopkins, his sons William Emory Hopkins and his wife Hannah of Rockville, MD, John Clayton Hopkins of Blacksburg, VA, and his daughter Anne Scott Hopkins of Blacksburg, VA. He is also survived by his mother, Marcella Wright Hopkins of Blacksburg, VA, his grandmother Helen Henry Wright of Big Stone Gap, VA, his brother Mark Wayne Hopkins and his wife Marty of Canton, MS, and his father-in-law William Coefield Wiggins of Blacksburg, VA. In addition to his family, Tim was blessed to live a life full of friends from all seasons of his life, and he held them all close to his heart.
Tim was such a beautiful man and a source of strength and love for his family.
The family received visitors on July 9 at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24060. A celebration of life service was held on July 10 at Blacksburg Christian Fellowship. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
