Blacksburg running back Cole Beck has received a scholarship offer from Virginia Tech, bringing his hall to 28 schools.
There had been some wonder why the hometown university had not made an offer to Beck after seven other ACC schools already had.
Last month, Beck said his final five were Pitt, UNC, East Carolina, UVA and Louisville. For now, no one knows whether the Hokies will now jump into the list of finalists.
Pitt has really pushed for Beck’s services, even posting if he came to the school he would be an excellent candidate for the Heisman.
Beck has let be known he would love to run track in college, thus creating a perfect storm for many schools with outstanding track programs. Virginia Tech has consistently won ACC track championships for the past five years with its sprinter program lacking the burst of speed that Beck could bring to the table.
The 6-5, 185 pound senior has caught fire in the past year being clocked in the top 10 nationally in both the 100 and 200 meters.
In a national New Balance meet in June, Beck placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.41 and 13th in the 200 meters with a 21.77.
Beck helped lead Blacksburg to this past season’s state 3A championship as he romped for 191 yards on 27 carries and a touchdown to push him over a 1,000 yards just in the playoffs. He also rushed for a 1,000 yards in the regular season.
