Forward Justyn Mutts has transferred from the University of Delaware to Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech men’s basketball head coach Mike Young announced the signing on Thursday.
As a graduate transfer, Mutts will be able to play in the 2020-21 academic year. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Ranking fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association in rebounds per game with 8.4 this past season, Mutts racked up 11 double-doubles and scored in double figures 19 times to lead the Blue Hens to a 22-11 record and to the semifinals of the CAA Tournament.
“Justyn brings us immediate size, scoring ability and a passion for winning, which are all things we are looking for in our system,” Young said. “His previous college experience will be something that will help our program from day one. We are thrilled he is a Hokie and are excited about his future at Virginia Tech.”
Last season at Delaware, Mutts played in all 33 games, starting 32 of them. He averaged 12.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, which led the team, and 2.2 assists per game. He was the Blue Hens’ second-leading scorer.
Mutts’ best game came against Hofstra when he scored a career-high 30 points. He became the first Delaware player since 1996 to post consecutive 20-point, 15-rebound games. He was named the CAA Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 2.
He chose the Hokies over Mississippi State and Houston.
