Hale’s Restaurant (7643 Roanoke Road, Shawsville) won “Best Breakfast” in a popular poll held by a local television station, WSLS 10.
To celebrate and showcase local flavor, the Roanoke news show Daytime Blue Ridge taped a story about Hale’s and its breakfasts this week.
Because the crew wanted to film them making breakfast, they served breakfast all day Wednesday.
Famous for its gravy biscuits, country ham and grits, the restaurant that has stood on its mountain curve above Shawsville since 1967, is widely known and popular for its retro vibe, pine paneling, live gospel, and smiling waitresses.
Joe’s Diner in Blacksburg won fourth place in the poll.
“We thank everyone who voted for us. We appreciate your support,” the restaurant said on its Facebook page. They will post the time the show will air later this month.
