CHRISTIANSBURG – Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley (HFHNRV) is announcing openings for AmeriCorps and VISTA candidates. These positions offer a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact in the community by supporting Habitat’s mission to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing. The available positions include Homebuyer Services Coordinator, Repair Program Coordinator, and Marketing and Communications Specialist.
Homebuyer Services Coordinator
The Homebuyer Services Coordinator will play a crucial role in building and maintaining the pipeline of homeowners by leading efforts to recruit and educate qualified individuals and families. This AmeriCorps member will work closely with the family services committee, a group of core volunteers, and area housing organizations to develop a pre-purchase education program. The goal is to support Habitat’s mission of providing lasting homeownership. The coordinator will conduct outreach with community stakeholders to increase the number of program applicants and serve as the main point of contact throughout the application process.
Key Service Activities:
Coordinate programs to recruit homeowner applicants.
Conduct applicant orientations and assist with the housing application process.
Research homebuyer education opportunities and best practices.
Work with the homeowner services committee and housing organizations to develop educational opportunities.
Occasionally build alongside homeowner families.
Repair Program Coordinator
The Repair Program Coordinator is vital in strengthening community relationships through planning, coordinating, and implementing projects in partnership with local residents and organizations. This role will be the main point of contact for low-income homeowners seeking affordable critical home repairs, weatherization projects, and accessibility modifications. The AmeriCorps member will help organize skilled volunteers and local housing organizations to achieve the goal of providing affordable home repairs.
Key Service Activities:
Build relationships with community residents, organizations, and stakeholders.
Engage skilled volunteers for local improvement projects.
Identify and implement home improvement projects.
Meet with homeowner families to review repair program eligibility.
Develop repair project tracking systems.
Coordinate and document repair projects.
Research funding opportunities for targeted populations.
Marketing and Communications Specialist
The Marketing and Communications VISTA member will create and implement a comprehensive plan for engaging communication with stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, Habitat ReStore customers, homeowners, and the public. The aim is to increase commitment to Habitat’s mission through well-documented and evaluated communication strategies.
Key Service Activities:
Research best practices and marketing needs.
Develop a marketing and communications plan, including social media, print materials, and website management.
Establish relationships with local media and community partners.
Implement and review the marketing and communications plan.
Ensure the plan’s sustainability through manuals, SOPs, and training.
